Hi Cowboy!!!!
Love'n Tortelini
Double Alpaca LoveOn our way to see the Minnesota Tracy's after a great visit with the Wisconsin Tracy's we stopped off to see my buddy Lisa on her ranch. The girlies got to help feed the newly weaned Alpaca Crias and give them some twin love. I discovered that my future Alpaca Farm will have some great ranch hands in the girlies. Lisa saddled up Mr Talent prior to our stop and the munchkins got to ride'em cowboy and surely enjoyed it!!! I think a longer visit to the ranch will be require this summer!!!!!

Sally, I was wondering where your blog entires were -- guess they were in packing boxes! I'm so glad the move went smoothly and that you're back in the South. I'll think of you next winter when we're freezing in MN. The ranch visit looks fun. We have a picture of Katie on our Quarterhorse when she was around 4 -- these pictures brought back some great memories.

Um... I have to say that while I think it's great that the kids got to ride a horse, I'm disappointed that the proper safety precautions were not taken.
First- your child should be wearing an ASTM approoved helmet made specifically for horseback riding. This is not optional. Even experienced riders die from falling off of a horse without a helmet.
Second- your child should be wearing proper riding attire. This includes heavy shoes or boots and jeans, breeches or jods.
Third- I would also like to see this child in a saftey vest made specifically for horseback riding.
Fourth- there are stirrup adapters that fit over the saddle horn that allow the child to put her feet in the stirrups and gain better balance.
In closing- I am an equine professional and it is my duty to spread my knowledge of safe interaction with horses.
Horses are prey animals prone to spook at anything, or nothing at all. I don't care how "bombproof" the owner tells you he is. There's no such thing.
I am not exaggerating when I tell you that your child's safety and indeed their life is at risk when participating in any equine activity (even as a bystander).
Please make sure that if you allow your child to participate in an equine related activity, you take the precautions I have outlined above.
